The Artist is a 2011 black and white movie, about a silent film actor in Hollywood who's career is about to be threatened by the introduction of films with spoken scripts, or "talkies" as they seem to be known.
I was excited for this after seeing some of the cast, including Malcolm MacDowell, Jon Goodman, and the guy who plays the warden in The Green Mile. I'm not really too familiar with the rest of the cast. This film also won a number of awards and was the first 100% black and white movie to win academy awards since the 1960s.
Unfortunately I found this film very difficult to watch, not my cup of tea what-so-ever. Right from the start I found the acting a bit daft and the attempts at Old style comedy rather dull and not amusing at all. I can't talk much about the plot or story because I failed to see much of one. I appreciate that the film tries to take you back to times gone by and reminisce about the early days of Hollywood and what it would have been like to watch a film in the 1920s/30s. But something was just hugely lacking, I found myself drifting off and wanting to occupy myself with something a lot more interesting. The tv series Rome, which I started today, is a most excellent watch, history made interesting.
Some I gather will appreciate this film for what it represents, those who are massively into cinema and film will probably enjoy it, or will they? But for me, I've never been bored out of my skull so much in my entire life. Garbage.
I score this film 0 small twiddly moustaches out of 5. Truly awful.
Scathing 😂😂
Thanks Shane, I think 🤣🤣🤣
Well at least it made you feel something 🤣
