Wild tales (A Crime Of passion)

Updated: Jun 2, 2020

Ok so for my reviews I normally take notes on what’s happening but for this review I struggled to keep up with the subtitles. So I gave up in the end! That said this was a very entertaining movie it was gripping from start to finish.

Wild tales is a collection of short films that go from a plane crash, to a restaurant murder, to road rage, to trying to cover up a hit and run, to getting revenge on a tow truck company and finally to a disaster of a wedding.

The film opens with two unsuspecting passengers talking on a plane. Which leads to all the passengers realising that they all know the pilot and that at one point in there life’s have all wronged him. Weather he deserved it or not. Panic ensues and the pilot crashes the plane.

This sets the tone for the whole film. It’s the sort of film where your forced to put yourself into the shoes of the characters and ask yourself what would you do? Granted these are some pretty extreme circumstances!

My favourite section is the road rage incident. It was both hilarious and brutal at the same time. After a guy gets angry at a slow driver and shouts abuse he speeds off. A little while down the road though he get a flat tire and has to pull over near a bridge. I found myself shouting at the tv saying what kind of moron can’t change a tire! But anyway that’s beside the point. Soon the slower vehicle catches up to him. So the guy locks himself in the car when the other guy pulls up. Chaos ensues (a bit of a theme in this film) and ends with the slower driver defecating on the mans car! You have to wonder what kind of man cares so much about the speed limit, but has no problem trashing a mans car and taking a shit on it while the owner is inside!

You may think well that’s the end of this one but no you would be mistaken. As the slower driver gets back in to his car the faster driver decides to ram him and his car down the ravine the bridge goes over. Then after hastily bumbling through fixing his tire, decides to try and run the man over (Why I don’t know maybe he just snapped). At which point his tire falls off and he crashes his car down the ravine as well!

A hilarious fight ensues! Which ends up with them both dying from the car exploding. And then my favourite quote of the film. When the detective is asked what do you think happened, his reply is it looks like a crime of passion!

Other highlights are the explosive’s engineer getting his revenge on a tow truck company that keep wrongly towing his car. Which drives him insane with anger and ultimately ruins his life.

And of course the wedding. Brilliant work by the actress who played the new wife.

This film is great in so many ways it’s story telling keeps you fascinated though out and always asking what would you do in this situation. It’s definitely a film I could watch again and not get bored with. It’s very captivating and even in the slower scenes you can feel the tension growing.

I give it a 4.5 out of 5

Excellent review Geoff, and the mentioning of how a tow truck firm can ruin your entire life was a nice little touch
