Blow, is a 2001 true story about George Jung, played by Johnny Depp. I will say now, I think this is the best film he's ever done. George Jung was an American drug trafficker, he started selling Marijuana then went on to supply 80% of the world's cocaine. What you see in this film, is a child who grows up in a struggling home where his dad works all hours and his mom constantly on his back as they struggle to make ends meet. I first ever watched this film when it was first released expecting an action packed crime thriller. But what you get is quite an emotional story, a young man who vows not to struggle and wants to provide for his family, ends up taking the wrong path. Depp plays his character so well, you're completely on his side and you end up hating anyone who is against him. Ray Liotta plays his father, who never turns his back on his son and only wants him to be happy. The life of George Jung from the swinging sixties (love this part of the film) and right up to his final arrest and conviction was certainly an emotional roller coaster. Kudos to director Ted Demme (nephew of Jonathon Demme), I'd love to have seen more films from him, but he tragically died during a basketball match about 12 months after Blow was released. Ironically, cocaine was found in his system which may have bought his heart attack on. An absolute masterpiece of a film, after watching this, you will understand that not all criminals are bad people.
