Tampopo- The good, the bad and the ugly of the noodle world

I am going to review this film outside of my normal format, because (a) it has been almost a week since i watched it and had many hangovers since. (2) I made no notes so will struggle to remember specifics and (d) This film was so out there, i don't think a formal write up does it justice.

So what's it about? I asked myself this all the way through, in short, it is about a noodle bar owner who is being trained by a truck driver to improve her noodle (ramen) recipe and the quest for the perfect dish begins. This film has it all, romance, mystery - plenty of it!, action and comedy. Each scene does not relate to the next or even the previous. Imagine seeing a group of business men grunt at a menu they don't understand in a french restaurant, order the same thing as each other, then give the youngest of the group the death stare for being competent about other cultures in his ordering, only to never see these men again and see how their food went down. This is pretty much how the entire film goes, i went to the toilet at one stage and to fetch a refreshment, upon my return i was greeted with a group of homeless vagabonds all trying and judging Tampopo's recipe. I wasn't going to even try to understand what was going on and just enjoyed what i was seeing for what it was.

My final thoughts on this film, was it good? Well i answered my own straight forward questions. Did I enjoy it? Yes! Did I want more? Yes! Do I have a new found love of Ramen? Yes! Would I watch it again? Just try and stop me!

Pure movie magic! Tampopo gets 5 don't each crisps in the cinema out of 5 from me!

Noodlemania a.k.a. Tompopo

Tompopo was fucking mental from start to finish. It's all about ramen and a sensuous passion for all things foody in Japan. We celebrated...

I think you made the right decision with not trying to explain it

It was hilarious when you went to the toilet and came back to find the vagabond scene.

"How do we explain this to Tom?"

"Let's not bother."

Haha you could tell I had to think about that one 🤣 I left it too long to review after watching. Very memorable film but most of the finer details have left my frazzled brain haha

I love the struggle to come up with things to rank it out of each week.
