The Bear is a 1988 film, told from a bear cub's perspective of having to survive in the Canadian wilderness after losing it's mother in a rock slide and being left orphaned. He goes on to bond with a male grizzly, who is pursued by hunter's and must avoid being captured with the help of his new young friend.
This films covers so many topics, I struggle to know where to begin, unconditional friendship, the beauty of nature, kind hearts possessed by animals and all the things wrong with the human species, are just a few I can name.
I first saw this film probably more than 25 years ago, when I was not much more than a bear cub myself, and I was completely mesmerised by it, not just the story, but the scenery is absolutely breath taking and the camera work and imagery really gives you a feel for the wild and nature in its most raw form.
The Bear had a massive influence on my life, I grew into a huge animal lover because of this film and rescue dogs from shelters, give to animal charities as much as possible. When there are so many b*****ds in the world who needless hunt and kill innocent creatures for "fun", those of us with any shred of decency should help them, this planet is nothing without the wildlife it has been blessed with.
This is one of very few films that gives a lump in my throat and has even had me in tears, that poor bear cub, and f**k hunters. I put this film in the "Everyone must see category". No matter what your views, The Bear really will make you see things differently and I just cannot recommend it any more.
I score it 11 out of 10, it gets better every time I see it.
I had braced myself throughout the entire film for all the bears to die. That's what I imagined had made you so upset as a kid.
Also, I hate hunting as much as most people, but what sis you make of the mountain lion attack? Who's side were you on? and why was it attacking the bear cub?
Haha sometimes a break from unstoppable murdering machines is needed, let's see what the jar churns out next 😄
Nice choice Tom I definitely enjoyed it more than the terminator and the hitcher.
