The drunken master... FIGHT!

Updated: Jul 7, 2020

This film’s philosophy on life is fight your way out of any situation! Got a contract to kill someone FIGHT! got a rubbish Marshal arts teacher FIGHT! Want to kiss and cuddle your cousin to win a bet? FIGHT! Witnesses a crime FIGHT! Got humiliated by your auntie and cousin and disowned by your farther? FIGHT! Can’t pay for your dinner FIGHT!

Yes there is no end to the amount of situations the director of this film will solve with a good old fashioned fight! Also I must mention the folly artists for there Excellent ability to close a draw or slam a cupboard door in time to every hand movement! Pure genius 👌. The music sparse as it is helps build the tension despite clipping like a mother fucker! Seriously people record at low volumes and make it louder when mixing!

So the basic plot of this film is marshal arts teachers son Wong is a naughty boy so is sent to train for a year with the drunken master Beggar So. After a hesitant start and getting his ass kicked by the big baddie Yin, he commits to training. He learns the secret style of Beggar So the 8 Drunken gods. But neglects to learn the last form as he thinks it’s for sissy’s.

His father gets into an altercation with a local business man. So the business man put a contract out on him to be killed by the big baddie Yin. After completing his training he stumbles upon his father getting his ass kicked so he steps in to save the day. Beggar So shows up. While fighting he leans the last form of the drunken gods and wins the fight the film ends here!

I love this film it’s great! It makes little to no sense but it’s hilarious all the way through. Jackie Chan is a cocky arrogant prick all the way through it suits the movies style perfectly! Yuen Siu-tien as Beggar So is great with his little red nose!

My favourite scenes is where Yin makes Wong crawl through his legs to degrade him. It’s the ultimate shame and drives Wong to train hard.

4 slammed cupboard doors out of 5

Geoff your review is fantastic! My copy of the film had no subtitles or dubbing so you've helped me understand what's going on 😂
