Well I’ve just watched it and yeah for the most part it’s a fun and quirky little rom com. It’s based around the idea of when you commit suicide you just end up in a slightly worse version of existence. One where you can’t smile there’s trash everywhere and everyone else is just as depressed and hopeless as you, oh and it’s always to hot and most of the landscape is a barren desert.
Clever in its concept however the novelty of the idea for me at least wore off after about 20 minutes. Not to say it’s a bad film it made me laugh a fair few times, I just found the concept a little grating after a while.
I also found myself guessing with increasing accuracy what was going to happen next. The car for example with its back hole under the seat was hinted at so much that I already knew the ending before it happened. I feel like they missed a trick at the end though after the two lovers smile at each other. I think it would have be pretty funny if all of the junk that was lost under the seat fell on top of him, just to reinforce the idea that life is shit!
At its core it’s your typical rom com. Guy goes looking for the love of his ex life but on the journey he falls for the girl who’s right in front of him. We found love in a hopeless place.
Overall it’s a good film I found it enjoyable and laughed at the funny bits however I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to watch it again. Also this just annoyed me if you pour a beer on a guitar even if it’s plugged in you are not gonna receive an electric shock you’ll just fuck up you guitar!
3.5 trash ridden beaches out of 5
I also hated the black hole. That trash ridden ending would have been much better. And now you've brought it to my attention, I'm shocked they never did it. There's probably an outtake with exactly that in it somewhere!
Finding love in a hopeless place. Nail on the head.
Agreed Geoff, very predictable film most of the time, I think it could have done a lot more also. I too am sure that loads of people have spilt beer on their guitars and lived to tell the tale!
